 13h00 - 15h FENG SHUI & TAI CHI WORKSHOP - Cost R 180

Feng Shui is the art of placement. Zeta Lewis, local Feng Shui practitioner will share her skills & knowledge during this workshop.

Lesley-Ann Green will share Tai Chi alignment, postures and movement that embodies these principles.

Come and play with them…

As Zeta says, Feng Shui is an ancient art and science that was developed over 3000 years ago in China. It is a complex body of knowledge revealing how to balance the energies of any given space, to ensure health and a balance in  life.

Feng Shui translates as wind and water. We understand it as energy, or qi.

The art of placement plays a role in spatial orientation in relation to favourable or unfavourable energy in homes, offices and surroundings. Feng Shui can be applied to anything.’

Understanding Osteopathy

What is an Osteopath?

Osteopaths are skilled at discovering the underlying causes of pain, using their hands both to gain information and to treat injuries. Treatment techniques may include soft tissue stretching, muscle energy techniques, rhythmic passive joint movements, joint articulation and manipulation to improve the range of movements of a joint.

Well known for the effective treatment of back and neck pain, any osteopath will also treat a wide variety of other conditions that may be related to the workplace, including tension headaches and migraine, and they can also give remedial advice and preventative exercises.

A wide range of recent studies have shown that osteopathic treatment can be instrumental
in rapidly alleviating the painful symptoms associated with back and joint pain whatever
the cause or origin. Osteopathic treatment is an effective means of returning people to full
activity at an early opportunity following injury from any cause.

Here is a bit more information about Karla van Zyl

Karla van Zyl qualified from the Surrey Institute of Osteopathic Medicine, UK, in 2007.
After qualifying she did a short spell in a general practice in the UK, after which she returned to South Africa in 2008. She focused on the gynecological field by working with pregnant women and babies at a women’s wellness center in Gauteng.
As she is a keen golfer, she also specialized in golf posture, swing dynamics and injuries alongside a golf professional at Wits University, Johannesburg.Early 2010 she moved to Cape Town and started practicing in Somerset West. Here she saw many patients in her other field of specialization, which is the treatment of migraines and headaches.Karla became a member of the Professional Board for Chiropractic and Osteopathy (PCOB) in 2012.

We are proud to announce that she will be practicing from Mayfair Wellness as from
1st August 2014

Do you suffer from any of the list below? Karla van Zyl the Osteopath can help you…

Below a few Testimonials of Karla’s good work!

Caroline’s story:
“While I had a history of the occasional migraine, in early 2011 I started having
constant, bad headaches.  No medication helped.  I consulted all manners of
medical professionals: GPs, Physiotherapists, chiropractors, gynecologists
neurologists, and psychiatrists. Each one professed to have the answer and
provided extensive medication and/or treatment plans.  Yet nothing helped.
This continued for almost a year, when someone casually advised me to see
an osteopath. I found Karla on the internet.  On my first visit she quizzed me
on the history of my problem, but also my general medical history. Her
osteopathic treatment gave me immediate relief, but her focus was to
restore me back to health.  She looked at the problem holistically and one-by-one
she tackled my different issues.  For example, as she is a doctor, she could send
me for blood analysis, thus we were able to cancel out some of the causes
of the headaches.  Thus she determined that the root cause of my headaches
was my neck, although there had been other contributing factors and issues.
All of these she was able to address. I am now free from pain!  I still see Karla
about once every 6 weeks for a ‘maintenance’ session.  Because of her help I was
able to fall pregnant and I now have a healthy baby boy. And no headaches!”

       Caren’s story:
Dear Karla I just wanted to drop you a short note to thank you. Thank you for
sorting out all my various aches and pains. After having a “neck from hell” for
about a decade, I felt like a new woman after my first treatment! Thank you for
your holistic approach to health and not just treating something in isolation. Thank you
for putting so much time and energy into your sessions – I never feel like I am
being rushed or that there isn't time to ask questions. Thank you that your
professionalism doesn't diminish your genuine care! I really appreciate everything!
Caren

       Kay’s story:
It was in early November 2012 that I first consulted Dr. Van Zyl. Although I have
previously consulted many medical practitioners in of lower back pain that
spasmodically caused interference with my physical mobility. None had been
able to resolve my problem. She diagnosed me with osteoarthritis of the lower
back. I had 6 treatments between November 2012 and February 2013 with no
further treatments required until May of 2014.

Exciting times for both Basic Stock & Le Petit Four

As Basic Stock expands and moves to a new premises we would like to offer a big thank you to Marissa & Onnie for all they have brought to Mayfair, as well as wishing them the very best for their exciting new Venture. Simultaneously we would like to offer Lezanne from Le Petit Four a warm welcome and success as she joins us at Mayfair.

Introducing Le Petit Four

Le Petit Four means "the little oven"
Linking to Mayfair with her healthy food options - fresh juices & smoothies, exciting breakfast options, delicious coffee and buffet style lunch dishes, Le petit four (Lezanne) also specializes in delicious baked goods.

Translated from French, Le Petit Four means “the little oven”.

Lezanne: "Traditional petit fours are small confections such as macarons, meringues and biscuits, which were baked in the oven after the main baking was done.  I was inspired by these mini treats from a young age.  Armed with my 20-year old, reliable, Kenwood mixer, an heirloom from my grandmother, I started Le Petit Four Boutique Bakery in 2010.  As of the beginning of August, Le Petit Four will be operating from Mayfair. I am very excited about this next leg of our journey.  Myself and my team are looking forward to making new friends and enriching lives with our baked delights and heart-warming meals."

Best wishes to Basic Stock

Fitness for the Future

Pilates for kids :

Fitness for the Future @ i.move studio

The health of today's children is compromised by a culture of convenience and increasingly sedentary activity. Eating fast food, watching TV and playing video games has become habitual while a nutritious diet and physical activity is on the downslide.
While the popularity of Pilates among adults is well chronicled, the exercise program also offers a large range of benefits to children. Improved posture and spinal alignment are realized as exercises increase the strength and flexibility of the abdominal and inner muscles of the body (the core or trunk). It promotes toned, sleek bodies and improves athletic performance. Through Pilates, children can gain awareness of their body, and learn how to move efficiently and gracefully. As children grow, their bodies are in a constant state of change and development.
Correctly or incorrectly it is here where they will formulate the physical attributes that they will take through life. Posture, the way they walk, the way they bend over, etc. Pilates can help establish correct principles of movement that children will use for their entire lives. It will also create a balanced musculature that can alleviate pain and reduce the potential for injury now and as they continue to grow into adulthood.
Beyond physical fitness, having a strong core can open up other benefits for children-including improved learning. Advocates believe that when trunk, or torso, stability is absent, sitting and standing for extended periods in school can be difficult. If children are expending their energy throughout the day just to maintain stability, their stamina for homework and other after school activities may be depleted. A strong trunk or core conserves their energy and allows them to be more attentive to schoolwork.
Concerned parents are now looking at exercise programs for their children in an effort to keep them fit and set them up for a lifetime of good health.
Because Pilates is a mind and body discipline, it can guide kids to a stronger body, and a more relaxed state of mind. Working to strengthen their bodies can increase children's self esteem, stamina, abdominal strength and sleep. That, combined with the focused breathing techniques essential to the exercises, can help kids attain a much more serene and less stressful outlook.
Tuesdays, 16h30 with Jeanne. Sign up is essential.
